Logo Design:At Jest Creative we believe logo design is one of the most integral areas of graphic design and one of the most vital investments you can make in your business’s plan for success. As we all know, first impressions are lasting, so it is essential for your logo to make the right statement about your business in order for your target market to identify with you and/or your product. The key element to designing a logo, which works on every level, is you. We start by exploring your business philosophies and ambitions to ensure we are on your wavelength, then clearly define whom you are aiming to attract and what message you want to convey. Armed with this information, we begin the creative process. Our research methods and design expertise ensures your logo will be eye catching, memorable and work on a wide range of applications. The final product is a logo that truly connects with your business’s personality and is qualified to launch you in the marketplace. At Jest Creative we understand the importance of brand recognition, so when given the task of a logo facelift, we ensure a nip and a tuck refreshes your image keeping you easily identifiable to existing customers. Featured Logo:Logos are much more than pretty pictures! Watch this space - your company could be next! The Lounge Café:The Lounge Café is a trendy meeting place in the suburbs of Wellington, The Brief: The client wanted their logo to include an icon (to identify them as a place to buy coffee) but also wanted the design to be contemporary, to represent their image and be inviting to their customers. The Process: We began with the creation of the icon. After many thumbnail drawings of coffee cups, rising steam, swirling coffee and coffee beans inspiration struck! One simplified coffee bean (when viewed at an angle) looked like a cushion or a lounge viewed from above. With this idea in mind we set about finding a suitable typeface. We wanted lots of curves like modular furniture. No one typeface met all the requirements, so we used a mixture of Avangard and Y2k Neophyte for the word 'Lounge' and altered the letter 'L' to give the desired round corner. The words 'The' and 'Café' are ITC Kabel, this typeface has hard edges and the combination adds interest and helps with readability. Next on the list was to position all the elements. We played around with the coffee bean on its own, positioned above and next to the words, but finally settled on replacing the letter 'O' with the icon. The word 'Lounge" was enlarged for emphasis and the other words were placed like coffee tables around the lounge. Finally we needed to decide on colours. The client wanted the logo to be displayed on both interior and exterior walls (a deep almost charcoal blue and corrugated iron). We tried many contrasting and complimentary colour combinations, and tried a wide variety of browns for the coffee bean... In the end we chose a vibrant lime green for the icon. The colour grabs attention and lends to the idea of being a cushion. The end result is a fresh, modern logo that could be interpreted as the simple message "we sell coffee", but after reflection may also suggest a relaxed and funky place to sit while enjoying a brew! ![]() |
